Based in Sully, Tŷ Hafan offers specialist care and support for children and young people living with life-shortening conditions and their families in Wales. Since the charity opened its doors in 1999, it has helped close to 1200 families.
The charity offers end-of-life care, symptom management, emergency respite stay, therapy and sensory play for children, and practical support, advocacy, a listening ear and bereavement services for families.
To kickstart their fundraising efforts, a team of 17 from Kilsby Williams ran the Cardiff Half Marathon in October. Every step taken on the 13.1 mile course around the city was dedicated to raising awareness and funds, with the team raising a fantastic £1,380 collectively.
The team then stepped into Christmas with the support of Ann Marshall from the charity’s Talbot Green store who provided the firm with a range of cards to sell. From the beginning of November, the Christmas cards, including fun, scenic, religious and Welsh cards, became available to purchase in packs of 10 from the firm’s reception during the festive season.
Two members of the tax team, James Davies and Lewis Sincock, took on the demanding Brecon to Cardiff Ultra Marathon in March. A true classic on the UK ultra running calendar, the pair took on the 43-mile journey following the River Taff from the heart of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park to the outskirts of the Welsh capital. Competing against 294 runners, James placed 22nd with Lewis finishing 115th. In recognition of this incredible achievement, the firm donated £200 to Tŷ Hafan.
Following in James and Lewis’ footsteps, the wider team laced up their walking boots and took on a challenge of their own in May: a trek in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. The demanding routes, covering up to 20km, incorporated Skirrid Fawr and other peaks in the eastern side of the national park such as Bryn Arw and Great Llwygy.
Sweet treats were in abundance on 24 June with a dedicated Tea for Tŷ Hafan cake sale at the office. There was a fantastic display of baking skills on show, not least by Emily Jones whose creatively decorated cupcakes were a hit, and the team tucked into delicious snacks from traditional sponge and loaf cakes to indulgent brownies.
Inspired by the World Cup, members of our team will be heading to Gôl Centres Cardiff in September for the Football Fives for Tŷ Hafan event. The tournament will see the Kilsby Williams team compete against other businesses in a round robin league, playing for position in the Champions League, Europa League and ECL stages before the knock-out phases and hopefully progressing through to the semi final and final.
