Glamorgan County Cricket Club, also known as Glamorgan Cricket Club, is one of the first-class county clubs in Wales and England. Founded in 1888, the Club is based at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff where it plays most of its home games and has played host to a number of high profile international and domestic matches.
Having previously worked with a ‘big 4’ accountancy firm for many years, the Club approached Kilsby Williams, the largest independent accountancy and tax firm in south-east Wales, to audit its financial statements.
Kilsby Williams aims to make its audits personal, efficient and helpful, with continuing open dialogue between its clients and its team to identify where systems and controls can be improved, manage and reduce risk and make suggestions to implement effective operations.
The Club’s business is complex; it is a members’ club and operates as a co-operative and community benefit society but also has multiple other stakeholders. The Club runs the men’s county cricket team (Glamorgan), hosts international matches, the Hundred men and women’s teams of Welsh Fire and a women’s regional team (Western Storm), and also runs a non-cricket conferencing and events business.
To understand the complicated structure of the business and its operations, partners at Kilsby Williams invested a significant amount of time during the first year of the audit to understand and get to know the business thoroughly. This included lead partner Jonathan Harrhy attending meetings with the Club’s senior management team and board and the presentation team at the Club’s AGM.
The Club was impressed by how Kilsby Williams provided fresh eyes and insights into the Club’s operation.
Dan Cherry, CEO of Glamorgan Cricket Club, said: “We were very happy with the service provided by Kilsby Williams during this first year of the audit and look forward to a long association with the firm.”
